Idol Update-the Top 10 Perform 3/25/08
What a wierd show! Paula's gauntlets, jewelry, and sparkly top just set off the tone for the entire evening...you just knew there was something strange about to happen....her fashion judgment was grossly impaired, but otherwise, she seemed fairly coherent tonight. She was wandering, dont get me wrong, just not as completely wacked as usual. Was anyone remotely interested in the opportunity to go to the website to choose a new design for the Coke cups on stage????? This is really just an extended Coke, Ford, ATT and Ryan Seacrest commercial week after week after week! Theme was "Songs from the Year of your Birth...." How depressing!!! You mean these are no longer top 40 hits? OLDIES?!??! BAH Ramiele Malubay-despite the emphasis on how sick she was, and how she lost her voice, and what a trooper, yak yak yak, she was really bad. Her voice was so tiny you could barely hear her in the beginning, and when she moved to the bigger notes, she was completely off-key. Although I like her, I think tonight we will see her packing up to go home. Too bad she never got any support from the stylist at all, except possibly to wear as much lipgloss as humanly possible at all times. Jason Castro-AS always, hiding behind his guitar. His performance of the song was about as ok as most of his performances. What I found most painful was him telling Ryan he was here to win. Could there be anyone who sees this laid back dude as fighting to win anything at all??? Maybe fighting for an extra toke or something. I agreed that you can hear his typical performance in any subway station in NYC. I dont see him going head to head with anyone. Not his best week-maybe bottom 3, but probably not. Syesha Mercado-while this may have been her best performance ever, she is still too mechanical for me. She just makes me uncomfortable-it's as if she's merely robotically moving along to meet her next life goal. Acting-check, Tryout for Idol, check, Top 10, check......I dont think she has what it takes to win. Time will tell. the judges certainly raved about how fabulous she was..... Chikezie-I thought he did a decent job and I didnt get all the criticism for doing a ballad. I didnt think he was boring or old fashioned, but there are only so many things you can do with a ballad. (unless you are David Cook) Good chance he'll be in the bottom 3, but I hope he's safe. Brooke White-Im getting tired of the Nanny and her chattiness with judges after every performance. No doubt, she can sing. She's cute and likeable enough. I dont see her as exciting or terribly creative or anything new or unusual, though. Im sure she'll be safe. I think she has the support of all right-wing conservatives voting for her. "This girl has never seen an r-rated movie-so we must vote for her to make a statement about our society" Spare me. Michael Johns-Good job, not terribly original, but he did well. As usual. Good performance, but didnt seem to make an effort-chose a good song, did a good job, nothing new or creative.....one of his best to date. Not good enough to win, in my mind. Carly Smithson-what's up with her? She seemed on the verge of a meltdown the whole time she was on stage. Really wired and tense. Didn't seem to be having any fun while she performed-seemed to be focused on the outcome of her performance. Maybe she's overthinking after being in the bottom 3 last week. I thought the backup singers were far too loud for Carly and a couple of the other contestants-especially that beast of a singer in the middle. Seems like someone could have adjusted the sound so we heard the CONTESTANT singing. I hope she's safe-still probably my favorite. Wouldnt be terribly surprized to see her in the bottom 3, though. David Archuleta-what kind of oddball song was THAT? Nothing else came out in 1990 that he could possibly sing? BAD choice. Crummy and stiff performance. He's always great, but he could have done so much better with ANY other song. Kiddo needs to avoid trying to "dance" unless he gets some lessons-the bobbing and marching is not cutting it. He'll be safe. Kristy Lee "Cowboy"-one of her best performance, also a brilliant song choice-we cant very well vote her off with visions of 9/11 in our heads and patriotism and Apple Pie Chevrolet and Mom and all that. May be her only week where she's NOT at risk. Anyone else notice that we were spared the whole "crouching wide-stance" moves that seem to be her trademark? All she needed was a chorus of little orphans waving flags and lit sparklers to finish off this number. Safe. David Cook-Happily, his hair seems to be improving every week. Thank God he took my advice. Still got the skinny weeble vibe going, but he's full of surprises. Thank goodness he acknowledged that he was a weird looking baby so Im not just harping about it-but what a butt-ugly baby photo, and then the HEAD shot made him look like the Brain off the cartoon 'Pinky and the Brain" Freakish head-but he grew into it-amazing. His folks must have been really worried. I would have rented baby photos from someone else to show on national TV, personally. when they said he was singing Bille Jean, I could NOT imagine it. Then he started singing it and it was virtually unrecognizable...and yet, I actually liked it. I wont say he is growing on me, but he is definitely talented and original and he's out there in front week after week. He may well be the one to beat in the end. It's getting more interesting when the kids start to really stand out from one another..... Kimberly Locke performs on the elimination round tomorrow night! Wow. thrilling beyond belief-didnt even know she was still singing, thought she was just doing the Jennie Craig spokesmodel thing. I like her-just have not heard much out of her since she came in 3rd on Season 2. Bottom 3 tonight will be Ramiele, Chikezie, and Syesha. Ramiele will be sent home.....

The Do-over when Brooke started singing did it for me. I couldn't get it out of my head during her whole performance how she screwed up. I laughed so hard at her. I hope they can her ass real soon!
