Top 8 Perform on Tuesday 4/8/08

You know its going to be a BIG week when the star power in the audience includes Bill Ford ( Ford Motor Co). Also hear from multiple sources that tearful Ashley Fier from last season (sobbing for Sanjaya) is back for Idol Gives Back and she’s in hysterics over Jason this time…..glad to know she still has no clue. NO fair, Id have cried and gnashed my teeth and happily made a fool of myself for free tickets, too-I was not notified of that option. It’s clearly age discrimination since Ryan flips out when people in their 50’s call in. (jerk)

Just in case you forgot-IDOL GIVES BACK-WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON FOX-THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN TV HISTORY…….and managing to squeeze in a third show this week-the elimination round will happen on Thursday-didn’t they give all of them a free pass for a whole week last year and then get rid of two at once the following week?

There is no way to eloquently comment on Paula’s choice of gowns last evening….not sure what she was thinking, or if she was plastered “I have never been drunk in my life” and that was all they could pour her into. It was really bizarre and I was concerned about what would happen if she coughed…..apparently Simon thought she was quite fetching-he had his arm around her the whole evening, although it might have been to keep her from falling out of her chair. That “stuffed into a casing” style of dress really does not seem to work for anyone unless they are built like a pencil. YIKES.

Special comments were provided on last night’s performances by MCO-he clearly missed his calling and should have been a writer!

--Jason's got to go

--Tattoo won't make it

--Brook will lose 5 more pounds and will be hospitalized for anorexia before the finals

--Kristy will fall asleep during one of her songs--which will be her first memorable Performance

--The Aussie will rip a vocal cord trying to be even more dramatic

--So I've got it as a three-way race between the two Davids and Syesha, with David Cook edging out Archuleta by a nose

Michael Johns-Starting to finally make the effort and it seems to be paying off. At least he’s more interesting. I found myself losing interest and mostly wondering why he decided to dress like a waiter, though, and whether he had a little apron someplace. Maybe he has a part time job after Idol in the evenings. NAH, that would be too realistic.

Syesha Mercado-ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Yet ANOTHER impersonation of a diva. There seems to be no real person inside this girl. She’s cute but vapid and is just too task oriented to bother showing any personality or hint of one. All we really know about her is that she acts in commercials and does an impersonation of a baby crying. Big Deal. Time to go home. THIS WEEK

Jason Castro-I like this version of the song, but like it more done by a huge ex-sumo wrestler from Hawaii named Israel……still, it suited his style. Not terribly inspirational, but ok. He’s a one-trick pony and this is all we can expect from him. Time’s up.

Why is there always a Capital BlueCross public service announcement with Anita Smith and Blue Man right before Kristy Lee EVERY WEEK? Is there some sort of message??? Dont laugh so hard you'll injure yourself and need to use your health care benefits?

Kristy Lee Cook-crouching Kristy looked good this week and actually sounded pretty good. Good choice of song-really suited her. She has no stage presence at all and I don’t think we have seen one performance without her resorting to that crouched pose with the mike in her hand. She’ll always be crouching Kristy, Hidden Talent to me. In all fairness-she was better than some this week and deserves another week-I hope she gets it. I wont be shocked to see her in the bottom 3 again, though.

DON’T FORGET….IDOL GIVES BACK-WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON FOX-THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN TV HISTORY

David Cook-terribly cornball performance, especially the “give back” in marker on his palm. While Paula found that nice and inspirational, I thought it reeked of desperation. The white chef's coat made me think about Food Network, then food, then whether I should have a snack so late at night (and I didn’t-it was almost 10 pm till I watched the show) So I guess I didn’t really get a lot out of the performance. Not one of his better performances, for sure. Crappy song choice. Kudos on going with a more normal hair style, still not sure about that beard thing going on….

Carly Smithson-looked wonderful, except for the tattoo face peering back at us. Long sleeves would really help…even sheer ones would help a lot. The big dangly earrings were interesting for her-she’s not been this dolled up before….she is very pretty. She is far and away my favorite but I agreed with Simon that it was an angry performance. I voted for her 27 times before the lines closed…..I hope it helps. She does not seems to be very well liked-not sure why-but she has my vote.

David Archuleta-why were there fog machines running behind him? Does fog signify angels or inspiration or something? Distracting-not his best vocal, but still much better than most. He’s just completely predictable and boring. I can’t see him winning somehow.

Brooke SHUT UP White- I am blaming this nanny for everything that is wrong with the world today. She has tainted the whole Idol machine with her endless blathering…now everyone else is starting to yammer back to the judges…Michael Johns gets a lower case ‘shut up’ too-for his blathering on about living the dream by living in America and being on Idol….shutupshutupshutup and get off the stage! I hold Brooke responsible for the inevitable decline of the show if they don’t all shut up. Cant stand the fake sad and frowny face nonsense and endless emotional moments ending in tears. I loved the song, not Brooke-if I’d had a brick in hand when Paula said “I love you Brooke” and Brooke immediately said “I love you too” Id have thrown it at my TV.

SEND HER HOME, she’s gotta go. SHUT UP BROOKE.

I wonder if Pop Tarts sponsors Idol Gives Back like they sponsor the American Idol “Pop-Tarts Freeze’Em and Eat‘Em” Tours? If so, we can expect at least 1 Pop-Tarts commercial every 6 seconds during the show. It would be nice to be able to donate to keep the commercials off the air…..probably cut down the show from 2 ½ hours to about 37 minutes of actual stuff of interest. Where did Paula go this year to show us she cares?? Maybe she ventured all the way to the Boys and Girls Clubs of OAKLAND rather than Hollywood…..oooh staytuned.
