Everyone's entitled to my opinions......
This Week-Idol 2/28/08

I have arbitrarily decided to just send out one rant per week, combining results from the week before, the guys, the girls and anything else I feel compelled to bellyache about-that way you will only have one email from me to ignore and/or delete.

Results-Top 24 cut to Top 20 on 2/21/08

Donny Osmond predicted that Amanda and Joanne would go home….and what a valuable resource he has become on all things Idol (on ET at 7pm). The 60’s outfits on the guys looked pretty good-especially on Chikezie and David H. Garrett’s hat only emphasized the "zombie" look and Colton looked silly with this hair styled into that sweeping "do". The girls-not such a nice look for most of them-although Carly looked cute. The 60’s medley by the entire group was horrifyingly bad-you could see the boys counting off their steps just like the first marching band practice of the year (1...2…3... left…turn to the right… and smile) and the girls were embarrassing in their efforts to outsing one another. The choreography was atrocious and made me wonder if Paula has a hand in any of the choreography on the show. The group numbers really show the camera hogs and kids in love with themselves as they compete to oversing.

I really liked the direct elimination this time, rather than the silly melodrama of "the top row is SAFE" nonsense. Happy to see Garrett get the boot right off the bat. I’m sure he’s not the worst singer in the world, but he was not good enough or ready for the show this year. Also very happy to see Amy hit the road next-again, a very good call. Can America be getting the point of the show after 7 seasons?!??

Speaking of the point of the show…..the premiere of Paula’s new video and song……OHMIGOD. I didn’t think anyone’s voice could be electronically altered more than Brittney Spears-Paula’s robotic version made Brittney sound almost a capella. Worst song, worst video in ages….I read someplace that Paula was not happy with it but did not want to speak out about it since Randy produced it. Shame on him. Guess you don’t have to be a rookie in the business to SUCK. I did love Simon’s snide "she represents all the colors of the universe" comment and applaud him for not providing an opinion. He probably developed an ulcer holding it in.

Sorry to see Joanne Borgella go home-I really expected her to hang in for a while. Extremely sorry it wasn’t Amanda/Cruella/Skunk Hair-hope for next week.

Amazed that Colton got the boot instead of Chikezie or another of the even more deserving losers-I expected to have to put up with Colton’s theatrics for at least a few more weeks. Good-bye to all 4 of them-good luck-now go find real jobs and get on with your lives.

Top 10 Guys 2/26/08

This week’s theme for the guys and the girls is "70’s Classics"

Michael John-nothing special, sounded like he was shouting at times-good song choice. Agreed with Simon that the guy is coasting this week-probably still safe.

Jason Castro-hidden behind his guitar again. This guy strikes me as a very shy, timid, mousy sort who has nothing much to say for himself. Would be lost on stage without the guitar. Sounded ok, but not worth my vote. Still hate dreads on the white boy

Luke Menard-someone told me he looks like Orlando Bloom and he does a little. Personally, I think he looks a lot more like the picture of Jesus on every Sunday School classroom wall in every church in Suburbia that I’ve ever set foot inside, just with slightly shorter hair. Too soft spoken and timid to stand out-nice voice for a background or a capella group singer, but not a solo artist. He’s coasting on his looks already. May be leaving very soon, although Im not sure you can boot Jesus. Words of advice-unless you are Freddy Mercury-never even attempt to sing anything by Queen.

Robbie Carrico-I thought he did a decent job, but there is something strange about this guy, even without the hokey bandanna. Got this link from lucky LeeAnn who pulled his name in this pool and I laughed myself silly….

The pocket chain a la Daughtry is a bit too much for me….not sure what, if anything, we can expect from this wanna be rocker.

Danny Noriega-The kid is growing on me for some reason. Maybe because he was able to say his foray into punk rock in 9th grade "sucked." Toned it down a notch and was not as flaming, so that may have helped a bit, too. I thought his song choice was awful and that he was off key for most of the performance, still, I kind of like him and hope he stays a while longer-could be this year’s Sanjaya. There are other guys who really NEED to go now.

David Hernandez-I still like this guy a lot, even though he’s not a stand out yet. I think he’s got potential. Greg-you may actually make the top 10 this year!!

Jason Yeager-Time’s up-gotta go tonight-far too cheesy to tolerate. Way too busy "performing" to bother singing well. Corn-ball. The lounge-lizard of season 7-wink wink nudge nudge.

Chikezie-much better this week, not as corny or cheesy-must have seen his performance and been REALLY embarrassed to have shaped up this fast. Good job!

David Cook-hidden behind the guitar, don’t really like the look or the sound of this guy, still think he needs to stop the attempts at hiding male-pattern baldness. He needs to watch the attitude, though- smarting off at Simon does not bode well for him. (There is no show without Simon, love him or hate him-he IS American Idol) Totally agree that this guy has no charisma so far.

David Archuleta-ok, he stole the show again this week. I like the kid. Loved his intro where he sang "you’re gonna love me" for the Season 1 finalists and Kelly Clarkson was all excited. Gotta agree-he’s the guy to beat at this point. Needs to watch the "what, me? You like me?? Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou"

Top 10 Girls 2/27/08

Carly Smithson-love this girl. Thought she sounded great. Certainly one of the best girls this season, probably THE best. (Simon called her an incredible singer and told her none of the girls can touch you vocally-hopefully that wont backfire and prevent folks from voting for her) I voted for her 10 times last night. Thank God for text messaging or it might have been more than a 5 second effort on my part.

Syesha Mercado-not her best night-thought she was off key and sang way too slowzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Brooke White Barbie #1-the Nanny did well hidden behind her guitar. Not sure I liked her as much as the judges did, but it was a decent performance. Sorry, she is no Carly Simon. A bit too grateful for positive feedback-if that continues it will be really irritating. Since she went to beauty school to learn to do good hair, maybe she can befriend Amanda before it’s too late….

Ramiele Malubay-good job, nice voice, nothing special. I’m looking forward to the waterworks tonight when folks get sent home-this little girl has quite an ability to cry, if you noticed her last week. She was a mess-hope that is not her only claim to fame all season.

Kristy Lee Cook Barbie #2-gotta go-don’t care if you’re a tomboy, don’t care that you are beautiful and look just like Barbie-her performance was boring, the hoppy, bobbing dance moves with the crouching stance was distracting and the voice is just not that great. How weird that the judges all commended her for not being sick this week! As if it was some sort of achievement….

Amanda Overmyer-Skunk-hair MUST GO TONIGHT. The hair, the pants, the awful voice….no redeeming qualities at all. She was God-awful and when they showed her parents in the audience, I though she looked older than both of them. What the hell were the judges thinking when this freak made the top 24!? Glad she likes to read, at least we cant blame her bad choices on illiteracy-hope someone is willing to hire her to care for blind and deaf respiratory clients when she gets home.

Alaina Whitaker Barbie #3-seems very old for her age, sounded like she was screaming a lot of the song-but has a good voice and some potential. Wonder if any of these Barbies date guys named Ken?

Alexandrea Lushington-still cannot get over the name. The cargo shorts were a strange look, don’t like the way she crouches and pulls up her shoulders to sing. She looks constipated but with a huge toothy smile at the same time. She really tried way too hard and ruined the song, which she should never have attempted to begin with.

Kady Malloy Barbie #4-not sure how I feel about this Barbie. She was drowned out by the band and off key most of the time. Not very interesting except on the video clips about her-her actual vocal performances are boring. Simon hit it on the head with his commentary.

Asia’h Epperson-the extensions in her hair looked ridiculous, thought she sounded terrible and off key throughout the whole thing. Glad Simon heard the same performance I did since Paula and Randy raved about her being so brilliant. I didn’t hear that at all. She seems very smug and full of herself. I think we’re seeing her true colors coming out-she may have lost her father recently, but this is no "poor little girl" by any means. This girl is entitled and spoiled and used to getting things exactly her own way.

My predictions for this week-Jason Yeager and probably Luke Menard, although I think Robbie Carrico is at risk too. The girls will lose Amanda Overmyer (if there is a God in heaven) and Kristy Lee Cook or maybe Kady Malloy.
