Idol update 3/6/08

Dang it! I really did make my predictions before the show last night and I forgot to send it out yesterday before I went home-now my creditility will be suspect-even though I was 100% RIGHT

Here's what I forgot to send out:

Results Show 2/28/08- Top 20 cut down to the Top 16

The Great and Powerful Oracle of Moi really blew it this week!!! I was WAYY off on the folks to go home, except for Jason Y who was such a sure thing that it was hardly a prediction at all. Wig Boy Robbie was pretty unexpected and I really did not think that either of the girls who got the boot deserved it this week. I'm really going to miss saying AlexAndrea Lushington...I hope she makes a big name for herself just so I can say it in context again some day. I wish her well-she was pretty good and it was not her time. It was also not Barbie Alaina's time-I truly felt sorry for her when she burst into tears-I think that may be the first real emotion showed this season. She sang quite well for someone who didn't think she could do it-but the most interesting part to me was the way Asia'h pushed her way up front to grab at the mike to "help" her sing her song.....I'm really happy that Alaina was able to kind of shove her off and deal with her own performance-that was pretty mature for a 17 yr old. I think Asia'h is a sneak and would stab anyone of the others in the back for air time-at least I hope so-it's so much more fun when there is someone "evil" to monitor.

I CANNOT believe that Amanda/SkunkHair/Cruella/Scaryashellnurse made it through for another week. Two absolutely tolerable girls were sent home and we're still stuck with Amanda. It takes me back to Season One's Nikki McKibbin-the horribly bad rocker chick single mother with the brilliant red hair and all the piercings who ran a karaoke business-she needed the boot for weeks and weeks and weeks, and ended up as #3 for the season-never to be heard from again. I don't know how many weeks of The Janis-wanna-be I can take-I hope it's only 1 more.

Finally figured out what it is about David Cook that annoys me so much-actually, a couple of things. First-the kid has no shoulders-his neck just kind of becomes his chest-he almost looks like a slender weeble. I wouldn't mind popping him one to see if he wobbles but doesn't fall down. More importantly-the way he holds his head when he sings-he is leaning back, looking down his nose and almost sneering at the camera-not my idea of charisma at all. The bad comb-over is just the icing on the cake. I said he looked like Ed Grimley before-I can seriously picture him dancing about like Ed used to do with his pants pulled up into his armpits, only this guy would be holding a guitar and trying to rock out.

Final observation/complaint about results night:

WHY are we subjected to repeats of the WORST performances of the week a second time? I think video clips of highlights should be sufficient torture. After listening to Fozzie Bear, I mean Jason Yeager, do his thing all over again, I knew my ears were bleeding yet I could not tear myself away from the show long enough to attend to them. Probably lost a pint or two. Seems like Idol is taking some huge risks - there might be a legitimate "pain and suffering" suit with my name on it.

Now, in the interest of FULL DISCLOSURE (ha ha pun intended)

The "SCANDAL" for the week of March 3rd has to be David Hernandez' sordid past as a stripper....is this really news and do we really care?? He's still got my vote, probably now more than ever....oh, and please make note of the name of the club where he "performed"...way too funny

A HUGE WELCOME BACK to our beloved Impaired Paula. She was largely incoherent and blathering about nothing all evening….how I’ve missed her as a source of entertainment. Actually, Randy’s not lagging too far behind….Im getting really tired of his laughing after every performance and saying yo yo, dawg, listen and then announcing that he produced this or payed for that star, or he knows some celebrity (YAWN-the name-dropping is getting ridiculous when even Paula is picking up on it and mocking him for it)

Other than entertainment, neither Randy nor Paula contribute much of anything. And as much as you may hate Simon- yes, he is rude and mean and it is "unfair" to criticize the kids beyond their singing-but he makes the show. C’mon now-would we really be paying any attention if there was a panel of 3 Paulas?? If the kids put themselves in this position to be criticized and booted off the show knowingly-then they shouldn’t whine about being judged and getting the boot. Even the dimmest bulbs in the chandelier have to understand there there is a REMOTE possibility that they might not win it all….maybe the Idol machine should hire me to go down there and tell them the way things work and to toughen up.

Anyway,

St Luke Menard-Wake me up before you GO GO St Luke-you blew your last chance and even your good looks wont save you this week. I abstained from voting this week, just in case he really is Jesus-no desire to be struck by lightning for trying to boot him

David Archuleta-great vocal as always-can he really continue at this level to the finale? If he does, is he doomed? I think the really great ones get the boot at the 4th place week-think Tamyra Gray, Chris Daughtry……I truly believe that there is just enough of a nasty streak in most of us to prefer someone who is flawed at times to someone consistently perfect…..so I hope he has a minor screwup or marginally bad week to secure his position. Favorite Randy-ism kof the evening was when he told David that his performance "didn’t show off your vocal ‘prowness.’ " (I replayed it twice-I DID really hear that!) Forgive me for being such a snot about it, but that’s not a word. DAWG, you’re a doofus.

Danny Noriega-overly dramatic-SNAP-annoying-SNAP- and a big TMTH-despite his clear love of himself-he’s gotta go. He was terrible. I wonder who will take his space on Vote For the Worst, through? He ruined a song I have a special fondness for-sitting in yet another boring conference call at work (in a previous job OF COURSE) there were people beeping in and out of the call constantly and the beep-beeps were endless and really disruptive….after one beep-beep one of the other folks in the room burst into a chorus of Tainted Love and just cracked me up.

David Hernandez-the stripper-YAY, great performance! Weird song choice but he performed it well. This guy HAS to stick around, especially since Greg pulled his name and after a number of years of losing the pool, he’s feeling like it is rigged-need to prove to him that he can be a big winner, too. I hope the media frenzy doesn’t require that every conservative viewer vote him off.

Michael John-he’s good, not exciting, nothing to say about him

David Cook-Ed Grimley!!! Shocked me this week-I really liked his performance!!! I’m sure he toned down the bad combover and got rid of the orange and modified Mohawk just because I hated it, which was considerate of him. I’m kind of imporessed-he was good. (of course, I love Lionel Richie…it’s a mandatory thing over the age of 50)

Jason Castro-Dreadlocks also surprised me-I REALLY liked his performance. I didn’t think he had it in him to do well without the guitar to hide behind, but he did very well and deserves to stay. I still hate the dreads, though.

Chikezie-thought he did a nice job-better than other weeks-I love his voice and he reminds me of early Ruben Studdard (before he won and his producers realized he was black and therefore was required to sing hip hop crap that no one wanted to hear after we voted him in as the next Luther Vandross-no wonder he lost his contract, too)

I’m VERY confident-St Luke is out, Danny is very likely to hit the road this week- the 3rd possibility is Chikezie, although I think he’ll make it a bit longer.

Top 8 Girls down to Top 6 Girls 3/5/08

Another guest appearance by rambling wacko Paula.......I love her impaired. It takes me back to my inpatient psych days (as the nurse, not the patient)

Asia'h Epperson-CANNOT STAND this girl-she is so full of herself that she continues to do Diva songs, even though the judges keep telling her not to try them if she;s not as good as the Divas who recorded them....another Whitney song tonight. I thought she stunk. Randy actually liked this performance, Paula was dancing and told her she nailed it-finally Simon as the voice of reality told her it was a second rate Whitney at best. I really want her to go this week. REALLY.

Kady Malloy-wow-I never heard this song, or at least not this version of what was supposedly a song. It was terrible-she was off key on every note. She has lovely teeth, though. Barbie's time is up this week. Too bad we never got to know her at all.

Amanda Overmyer-big differnce this week-much more toned down, from the hair to the performance. She looked really spaced out during the performance-almost druged, and what was the deal with not even smiling when the judges loved her? Got some very loose screws here. Probably safe-andprobably deserves to be, for this week, anyway.

Carly Smithson-loved the performance, love this girl. Her mother was in the audience and looks the same age or maybe even younger than Carly...amazing.

Kristy Lee Cook-Country Barbie did ok, although I think all the Barbies need to go home so we can tell the contestants apart. The country vesionof the song was interesting and it was not bad. I kid of agree with Simon that hse is forgettable, although I wont be able to forget her nuttty story about being a dog at the age of 7 and drinking for her own bowl....not so sure Id have shared that.

Ramiele Malubay-vocal was ok, this girl really needs a stylist to figre out a look for this size 0 munchkin. She looked too casual last week in her jeans and tank top, and kind of sloppy and just not serious about being a performer in her hoodie and skirt this week. Her vocals are not as strong as they wre at first and if she cant even stand out for her trendy look, she's doomed. But not this week.

Brooke White-liked her peformance-this is the only Barbie we need. She's different. Probably cant win, but she's likeable and sings well.

Syesha Mercado-an exact mimic of Whitney's version-it was good, but not original. Am I alone in thinking that this girl has no chance at all?? She is not enough of a stand out vocally, and lacks the personality to make up for not being a real diva.....I dont see her lasting more than a few more week, but safe this week.

Girls going home-Kady, without a doubt....Asia'h with any luck, but Kristy Lee may also be at the bottom of the heap.....
